In Assam, the overall flood situation further improved in the worst-affected Dhemaji district with no rain during the last two days. As many as 80 villages of the district are, however, remain marooned. According to official sources, around four thousand people are still taking shelter in nine relief camps. A vast area of the foothills district along with a part of the neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh is cut off by road for the sixth day today following severe damage of the National Highway at Sisi Borgaon -Tokobari area. With receding of water, the Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) authorities have taken up restoration works of the Highway on war footing. AIR Correspondent reports that the region is facing acute shortage of petroleum products and other essential commodities due to snapping of surface communication for around a week. The district authority has asked the traders to stock adequate food items and other essential commodities till the road link is restored. Meanwhile, the State Chief Minister Mr.Tarun Gogoi has directed the district authorities of Dhemaji and Lakhimpur to supply adequate amount of relief materials to the flood victims. He also asked them to supply cattle fodder, clothes, tarpaulins, medicines and safe drinking water in the flood-hit areas.
