Flood situation in Assam, Himachal Pradesh remains grim

In Assam, 850 villages in 13 districts are affected in current surge of water. Official sources in Guwahati said that around 3 lakh 65 thousand population are reeling under the fury of flood.

Major portion of Kaziranga national park and Pobitora wildlife sanctuary also submerged in flood water. Thirty eight thousand affected people have taken shelter at 27 government run relief camps.

Flood water also affected 35 thousand hectare of crop land in the state. Several roads have also been submerged in Lower Assam. Country boats have been deployed at Nagaon and Morigaon districts for relief and rescue works.Relief materials are being distributed at flood hit areas by administration and civil society organizations

In Himachal Pradesh, normal life continues to be affected in flood and cloud burst hit areas. Administrative authorities in Shimla, Mandi, Hamirpur, Bilaspur and Kangra Districts are trying hard to open hundreds of blocked roads and to restore power and water supply in the affected areas.

AIR Correspondent reports that property worth crores of rupees has been washed away in the flood water. Four special teams from District headquarters Mandi have been sent to the affected areas today.

These teams would help the locals to bury the hundreds of cattle heads died in these areas. Several water supply schemes in the area have been washed away and villagers are forced to drink rain water.

More than two hundred link roads are still blocked throughout in the state.
