In Arunachal Pradesh, the overall flood situation has improved significantly and the focus is now on carrying out relief and rehabilitation. However, telephone lines and surface communication continue to be cut off in most of the districts and people are devoid of electricity, fuel and safe drinking water. Reports said several people have started leaving relief camps and return home. Possible outbreak of diseases in the aftermath of the flood is a major concern for the authorities now.
The state government machineries are continuing airdropping of ration and other essential items in several places of the state. IAF helicopters airdropped 88 quintals of rice in Paglam and Dambuk areas of Lower Dibang Valley district yesterday. BRO and paramilitary personnel are also actively involved in road restoration works and relief measures.
Four persons are still reported missing in the flood devastated Lohit district till yesterday. The flood has claimed nine lives so far.
On Wednesday, a high level team of the state government led by Water Resource Development Minister Newlai Thingkhatra made the second aerial survey of the flood affected areas. The team along with Rajya Sabha MP Mukut Mithi and Education Minister Bosiram Suiram landed at specific locations and interacted with the affected people. Mukut Mithi also sanctioned Rs 25 Lakhs from his MP LAD Fund for restoration work in Roing.
Meanwhile, Union Minister in the PMO, V Narayansamy has assured to provide immediate relief to Arunachal Pradesh for the flood victims. The assurance was given when Arunachal MP Ninong Ering called on him in New Delhi yesterday. The MP also requested for immediate steps to restore road connectivity in the district headquarters of the state.
