Flood situation in AP continues to be grim

In Andhra Pradesh, the flood situation has not improved in Krishna, Guntur and Nalgonda districts with heavy inflows continuing to reach Prakasam barrage at Vijayawada city.<br/> <br/>The administration is now focussing on Krishna and Guntur districts where as many as 200 villages are still under the threat of inundation as River Krishna has reached its brim at the Prakasam barrage. Defence personnel and central experts are engaged in rescue operations on a war footing. About 10 helicopters and 300 mechanised boats are engaged in the rescue operations. Authorities are being compelled to use force to evacuate people from the marooned areas in Avanigadda, Diviseema, and Nagayalanka areas of Krishna district.<br/><br/>Over 2 lakh people who rendered homeless are taking shelter in relief camps. Meanwhile, restoration of Roads and communications are in full swing in Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar districts where floodwaters have begun to recede. The UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi on Monday carried out an aerial survey in the flood affected areas in Andhra Pradesh. They also witnessed the devastation created by flood fury in Ballary and Raichur districts of Karnataka to assess see the situation in Kurnool and Mahaboobnagar districts. Union Home Minister Chidambaram, Chief Minister K Rosaiah also accompanied her. <br/><br/>
