Sikkim was cut off from rest of India following landslides on the main artery NH 31 – A at 10 Mile today, while the flood situation in three North Bengal districts turned critical with the Teesta and Jaldhaka rising alarmingly following a deluge and fresh rains. Darjeeling district relief officer Mr. Arindam Biswas said, landslips at the 10th Kalimpong sub-division aborted traffic on the Gangtok-Siliguri stretch since morning. He said reports of landslides also came in from various places of the Darjeeling Hills, triggered by incessant rains for the past few days. Details of the damage could not yet be ascertained due to communication failures, he added. The Mahananda overflowed at Gulma in the sub-division inundating areas at Champasari, Milon More and the Punding – Khairani polling station at Gulma.
