In Uttar Pradesh zero rain in the state and neighbouring Uttarakhand and little discharge of water from barrages helped to stabilise the rising water levels in different rivers in the state. Flood situation is improving in several districts in western region. Five more persons died in rain-related incidents taking the toll to 397.After release of more than 2 lakh 28 thousand cusecs of waters from Narora barrage flood threat has risen in several areas in Aligarh, Badaun and Kanshiram Nagar districts.Army is engaged in rescue and relief works in flood hit five districts including Unnao, Shahjahanpur, Badaun, Kannauj and Farrukhabad. About 134 villages have been inundated and more than 8 hundred houses collapsed due to flood in different rivers in several districts during last 24 hours. As per reports available a total of 33 districts are flood affected and of them situation is very grim in 13 districts including Moradabad, Bijnore, Rampur, Muzaffarnagar, Unnao, Kannauj, Farrukhabad, Shahjahanpur, Mathura, Bareilly, Hardoi, Badaun and Kanshiram Nagar where river Ganga and Yamuna and other local rivers are on spate. In Farrukhabad flood situation is still very grim due to the rising water levels of the River Ganga. The unrelenting Yamuna continued to swell and rising water of the river hit the outermost boundary walls of Taj Mahal in Agra after submerging most of the Taj Heritage Corridor and the waterworks, cutting off supplies of water to half of this Taj city. Colonies in the Balkeshwar and Dayalbagh areas have also been inundated. Road traffic on National Highway 94 opened connecting Bulandshahr and Aligarh with Badaun, Moradabad and Bareilly.Meanwhile mobile medical teams engaged in immunization for polio vaccines are facing a challenge posed by floods in western, eastern and Terai regions. Polio vaccination campaign has been hit partially in about 100 blocks of the state and completely in four high-risk blocks of western regions because of floods. These four blocks include Moradabad block in Moradabad district, Samrer in Badaun, Afzalgarh in Bijnor and Saidnagar in Rampur district.
