Flood situation is improving in Uttar Pradesh although 21 districts are still flood affected. According to Central Water Commission, all main rivers are either receding or remaining constant in most places in the state in the last 24 hours. The Ghaghara river is receding in the worst affected Gonda and Barabanki districts and now flowing below the danger mark. The Ganga is also receding in Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi but still flowing above the danger mark in Ballia. According to Central Water Commission, Ghaghara in Ayodhya and Ramganga in Shahjehanpur is still above the danger mark. However, Yamuna and Gomti rivers are receding in most places and Sharda is constant in Khiri district. According to State Relief Commissioner, relief operations are on at a war footing. PAC companies are already engaged in 17 districts while in Gonda and Shahjehanpur, National Disaster Relief Force is helping the administration in flood relief works. Since last month, at least 125 people have lost their lives in flood and rain related incidents. According to Relief Commissioner, 272 medical teams are engaged in flood affected areas to prevent any epidemic like situation. Chlorine tablets and ORS packets are being distributed in these areas. Vaccination for cattles have also been launched in flood affected villages. More than one lakh people are still staying out of their homes in flood affected districts.
