In West Bengal, flood situation has improved in four districts while it continues to be grim in some parts of east and west Midnapur districts. State Irrigation Minister Manas Bhuiya told our Kolkata correspondent that fresh areas have been inundated in both Midnapur following breach in the embankment of Kansvati river. Dr. Bhuiya said, the situation has improved in north and south 24 Paragana, Bankura and Hooghly as rain has stopped. Around 2 lakh people have been affected in the flood in six districts of the state. In West Midnapur district alone around one lakh 63 thousand kpeople have been affected. Worst hit areas are Daspur, Ghatal, Debra and Chandrakona. While the situation at Tamluk, Maina, Panskura and Kolaghat are crictical in east Midnapur district. Water level are in spate in Keleghai, Kansvati and Kapaleswari river in these two districts. Many houses and standing crops have been damaged due to current spell of flood. Relief camp have also been set up in the affected areas. Water level is also rising in Damodar river following release of additional water from Durgapur Barrag. The State Irrigation Minister Dr. Manas Bhuyia is visiting flood hit areas in east and west Midnapur district to take stock of the situation. The leave of the employees of the irrigation department in the district have been cancelled.
