Flood situation further worsens in three districts of Barak Valley in Assam

In Assam , the over all flood situation in the three districts of Barak valley continues to be grim though the situation in some areas has been improving gradually. <br/> <br/>AIR Silchar correspondent reports that many new areas of the valley including Silchar and Karimganj towns and Katigora, Sonai, Algapur and other low-lying areas have been submerged by the flood water. <br/> <br/>In the worst flood hit Karimganj district bordering Bangladesh, export and import activities at the Sutarkandi border trade centre has been hit by the the flood water. <br/> <br/>Meanwhile, the vehicular movements on Badarpur-Jowai national highway, which was blocked on Sunday evening following landslide at Ratachhera in neighbouring Meghalaya has been resumed from Monday morning. <br/> <br/>The road is considered to be the lifeline of Barak valley, Tripura and Mizoram. The three districts of the valley along with neighbouring Tripura and Mizoram remain completely cut off from the rest of the country by rail for the fourth consecutive day on Monday following cancellation of train services in the Badarpur-Haflong section of the North east frontier railway due to massive landslides.<br/> <br/>The long spell of flood in the valley hits the normal life badly. In most of the flood affected areas of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts, the people are living with out electricity as power lines have been disconnected for safety. Besides, the situation is further aggravated with disruption of rail communications. <br/>
