In Bihar, the flood situation further deteriorated with rampaging rivers inundating fresh areas in East Champaran, Gopalganj and Supaul districts of the state. AIR Patna correspondent reports that about 4 lakh people have been affected by flood and thousands of them have been forced to vacate their homes and take shelter on the highways and embankment. The embankment of Bangari and Tilawe rivers breached their banks today and flood water has entered low lying areas of Raxaul subdivision of East Champaran district. The swollen Gandak is threatening to breach the newly constructed embankment at Semaria in Gopalganj district. Many villages in Supaul have also been flooded. The flood water has submerged the Motihari-Sheohar highway near Belwa and vehicular traffic has been suspended. The Central Water Commission said that the Kosi, Bagmati, Burhi Gandak and Kamla Balan rivers are flowing above the danger level posing serious threat to their embankment at many places.
