The flood situation in Uttar Pradesh continues to be grim on the fourth day. Now Basti and Kushinagar have also been affected along with ten other districts which were reeling under the flood of Saryu, Ghaghra, Rapti and Budhi Gandak. Most of these rivers are flowing over one meter fifty centimetres above the danger mark at several places.
Ghaghra is flowing 1.5 metres above the danger mark at Elgin bridge and 72 centimetres above the red mark in Faizabad . Around eight lakh people, spread over one thousand five hundred villages of twelve districts are affected due to flood. The administration is constantly carrying out the relief and rescue work.
AIR correspondent reports, Lucknow Gonda highway has been shut down as it is submerged in Barabanki. Many roads in the flood affected areas are either washed away or under several feet deep water making the rescue work harder.
Around fifty thousand lunch packs have been airdropped in Bahraich where the flood has caused severe damage to the agriculture and properties. Several parts of Balrampur city are submerged and residents fear a deluge tonight as water level of Rapti is constantly rising. A total of thirty two people have been killed due to flood so far. Some bodies have been recovered in Bahraich which seem to have flown in from Nepal. Thousands of flood victims have been evacuated by NDRF and other relief agencies but several thousand others are still waiting for food and medical help.
