Flood situation continues to be grim in Assam, over one thousand villages affected; MeT department issues warning of heavy rains in Uttarakhand

In Assam, flood situation remains critical as new areas have been inundated today. Official sources said that over 1 thousand 200 villages have been affected in current surge of water in 14 districts. 6 lakh 41 thousand are reeling under the fury of flood. Educational institutes, roads, health centres and over 45 thousand hectares of crop land submerged in flood water. One person drowned to death today in Lakhimpur district. Thousands of people are taking shelter in relief camp. Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has reviewed the flood situation today in Guwahati with several ministers and officials. He instructed the Deputy Commissioners to expedite relief measures in flood hit areas. <br/>AIR correspondent's despatch:-<br/><br/>"The Assam government has swung into action to expedite flood relief measures . Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal has reviewed the flood situation today in Guwahati with several ministers and officials. He instructed the Deputy Commissioners to provide all necessary relief measures at flood hit areas. Flood water damaged houses, roads, bridges, health centres and schools, embankments and over 45 thousand hectares of agriculture land. 81 relief camps and 50 relief distribution centres have been set up. " <br/> <br/>Meanwhile, met Department has issued warning for heavy rain at few places in Uttarakhand from tomorrow evening onwards. Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Nainital, Almora, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts are likely to experience heavy rain between July 25 and 28. State disaster management department has also issued an advisory to all districts to remain alert. Uttarakhand has already been lashed with two spells of torrential rains since the beginning of this month.
