In Assam, with no heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, the over all flood situation in the three districts of Barak valley has further improved on Saturday. Although all the rivers of the valley including major river Barak have been receding in the absence of rains, they are still flowing above the danger marks.<br/><br/>AIR Silchar correspondent reports that over five lakh people of Karimganj, Hailakandi and Cachar districts of the valley are in the grips of the current flood. In the worst-hit neighbouring Karimganj district, jawans of the National Disaster Response Force are assisting the district administration in rescue and relief operations besides helping in plugging the breach of embankments.<br/><br/>The Assam Urban Development and the Housing Minister Dinesh Prasad Goala has asked the district administrations of the valley to speed up relief and rehabilitation measures. He has reviewed the latest flood situation on Friday at Silchar with district officials. He assured that State Government will provide all possible assistance to the flood affected people. He has also asked the district officials to distribute sufficient relief to the flood victims.<br/><br/>Howeve, in Manipur, thousand hectares of paddy fields have been submerged following breaches on the Nambul river in Bishnupur district. Several houses are also submerged by the flood waters.
