The whole western region of Uttar Pradesh hit by floods has been declared as disaster Zone by the state government. Chief Minister Mayawati, who made an aerial survey of badly hit Bijnore and other flood affected districts instructed the authorities to speed up the relief operations. Bijnore, Rampur, Moradabad, Saharanpur, Bareilly, Pilibhit, Farrukhabad, Mathura and Badaun districts continue to reel under intense flood.AIR correspondent reports that The rain has slackened in the western UP today but the flood situation remained serious. The Chief Minister Ms Mayawati today demanded a package of 225 crore rupees from the Centre to effectively launch the relief and rehabilitation work. She said the government is putting all out relief efforts from its own resources. The flood situation, however, is gradually improving in the eastern part but thousands of people have been displaced in Gonda, Bahraich, and Basti.
