In Assam, flood havoc continues in Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts following incessant rains in the catchments of the neighbouring hills of Arunachal Pradesh. Vast areas of human habitation and agricultural fields have been submerged by the surging waters of the river Singara in Naoboicha and Narayanpur circles in Lakhimpur district. As many as 10 villages in Sonitpur district have been inundated by the swelling waters of the Jia Bharali river. More than 35 villages are under water in Dhemaji district as the river Jia Dhol is maintaining a rising trend for the third day today. Affected people are taking shelter on the National Highway and other high places. In Jorhat district, the rising water of the Brahmaputra inundated vast areas of Lower Majuli Island disconnecting surface communication. The district authorities have dispatched disaster management teams along with food and other relief items for distribution among the flood victims. A Central Water Commission report released at Guwahati on Tuesday morning, said the river Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger level at Neamatighat and Numaligarh. While the river is maintaining a rising trend from Tezpur to Dhubri. The rising water of the river submerged a portion the low-lying areas of famous Kaziranga National Park. Reports of massive river bank erosion have also been received in different parts of Nalbari district causing major threat to many villages and damaging agricultural crops to a large extent.
