Flood fury continues in UP

In Uttar Pradesh, there is no let up in the flood fury in Terai and eastern districts. In the western UP, the district administration in Agra has warned the people to vacate the low-lying areas as the Yamuna has crossed the danger mark in the district. The river Ganga is rising in Ballia and Ghazipur in eastern UP. The water has submerged the ghats in Varanasi and is about to enter the city. The river Ghaghra and Rapti have started receding at several places but are still above the danger mark in Barabanki, Faizabad and Gorakhpur. The repair of breach in Elgin-Charsari embankment is hampered due to strong current of Ghaghra River. The embankment was breached on Saturday engulfing about 70 villages of Barabanki and Gonda.Meanwhile, the state relief commissioner K.K.Sinha on Monday visited the flood affected areas of Gonda and instructed the administration to establish more relief camps. He said, 42 districts of the state are now flood affected while 28 people have lost their lives during the current flood fury across the state.
