Flight operations from the Cochin International Airport have resumed for smaller aircraft. The airport was closed after a Gulf Air flight skidded off the runway early this morning. Airport sources said, the Oman Air Muscat-Cochin flight, which was diverted to Bangaluru, has landed at Cochin. The Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Colombo has also landed at the airport. Speaking to media persons, the Cochin International Airport's Managing Director, V J Kurian said, the airport is expected to become fully operational by mid-night. He said, 12 international flights have been diverted to other airports following the accident and 15 domestic flights have been delayed. Mr.Kurian said, the pilot of the Gulf Air has reported that a sudden gush of rain when the aircraft had descended down to 352 feet for landing had hampered the visibility resulting in the aircraft skidding off the runway. The Director General of Civil Aviation, DGCA, has ordered a probe into the incident. Earlier, passengers of the Kochi bound Gulf Air from Bahrain had a providential escape when the aircraft skidded off the runway on landing at the Cochin International Airport early this morning. AIR correspondent reports all passengers and six crew members are safe.
