Italy's Flavia Pennetta has lifted the Women's Singles trophy of the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season. In the Open Era's first all-Italian Final last night, 26th seed Pennetta defeated compatriot Roberta Vinci in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2 to not only bag her maiden Grand Slam but also become the first Italian US Open champion. She is also just the second Italian woman to win a tennis major.After winning the title, Pennetta said, she plans to play the rest of the season before retiring.Meanwhile, the Men's Singles Final between top two seeds, Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will be played later tonight. While Djokovic, the world number one, is eying his 10th Grand Slam Singles title, second seed Federer will look to win his 18th major, and become the first player in the Open Era to win six US Open titles.In the Doubles, Sania Mirza and Martina Hingis will look to win their second Grand Slam of the season when they take on the Aussie-Kazakh team of Casey Dellacqua and Yaroslava Shvedova in the Final tonight. Sania and Hingis had won the Wimbledon earlier this year.The French team of Nicolas Mahut and Pierre-Hugues Herbert bagged the Men's Doubles title last night.
