Flash floods in France leave 19 dead

Flash floods in south-eastern France have killed 19 people and seven are still missing. Heavy rainstorms triggered flash flooding in the picturesque Cote d'Azur region, sweeping cars down streets and gutting houses. In the Draguignan area near the Mediterranean coast firefighters have been searching for those missing, and helping hundreds of people stranded in their cars, houses or on rooftops. More than 1,000 people have been forced out of their homes and hundreds of thousands have been left without electricity. Rail and air services have been interrupted.President Nicolas Sarkozy has offered his condolences to the victims' families and promised aid to help find those still missing.
