Flash floods’ fury in Himachal: one killed, 9 others washed away

In Himachal Pradesh, one person was killed while nine others were feared washed away in flash floods triggered by heavy rains at a village in Paonta Sahib area of Sirmaur District. Officials said, four vehicles, carrying members of a marriage party, were trapped in flash floods at Haripur Khol village. Body of one of the victims was recovered while nine persons are still missing. The victims were from different places, including some from adjoining Haryana.

Services of divers have been requisitioned to fish out the bodies. Senior district officials are camping at the spot along with medical and rescue teams for relief and rehabilitation works. Rescue works were stopped during the night and were resumed this morning. Chief Minister P K Dhumal has expressed grief over the incident.

Several parts of Himachal are experiencing intermittent heavy rains since last evening, triggering landslides in remote areas.
