In Assam, flash flood caused by surging Jiadhol River has affected 35 thousand people spread over 35 villages in Dhemaji district. The water level in the river is rising rapidly following heavy rain in the catchment areas in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.AIR Guwahati Correspondent reports that the affected families have taken shelter on the national highway and other high places. The district authorities have taken up relief and rescue works in the flood-affected areas on war-footing.Meanwhile, several Bhutan-originated tributaries have created havoc in Dhubri and Goalpara districts in Lower Assam. The water level in most of the tributaries including Beki, Gaurang, Sonkosh and Tipkai are rising rapidly following release of excess water allegedly from the Kurishu dam in neighbouring Bhutan.
