In Jammu and Kashmir, five suspected militants were killed today in an army encounter in Kangan area of Ganderbal district. Defence spokesman Lt Colonel J S Brar said in Srinagar that they are trying to ascertain the identity of the slain militants. Police sources said, the militants were believed to be a group of foreigners who might have infiltrated into the Valley recently.

Meanwhile in another incident, ultras fired upon a joint party of Army and police in Poshwari area of Shopian district in south Kashmir but no casualties were reported.
