In Jammu & Kashmir, five terrorists were killed in fresh gunfight along Line of Control (LoC) as Army foiled infiltration bid in Uri Sector in north Kashmir's Baramulla district today. Defence sources told AIR that the counter infiltration operations are in progress.<br/><br/>The counter infiltration operations are in progress at Machhil, Naugam and Uri sectors along LoC in north Kashmir's Kupwara and Baramulla districts. Minister of State for Defence Dr Subash Bhamre concluded his two day visit after reviewing the overall security situation in the Valley. <br/><br/>During the visit, the minister alongwith 15 Corps Commander Lt Gen JS Sandhu visited the forward areas along the LoC and also the hinterland where he interacted with the soldiers. <br/><br/>Defence sources said the terrorist groups were being provided active support including covering fire (heavy calibre artillery) by Pakistan army posts on the Line of Control to assist them in infiltration into the Kashmir valley. They said in the current year, 22 infiltration attempts were foiled and 34 armed terrorists killed on the Line of Control.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that during past three days, 12 armed militants were killed in gunfights after Army foiled infiltration bids in Kupwara and Baramulla districts. This includes five killed in Uri sector today. <br/><br/>A soldier also lost his life in the operations. Meanwhile, the normal life across Kashmir Valley was completely affected due to shutdown called by separatists against student killing in south Kashmir's Shopian district on Tuesday. The restrictions under Sec 144 remained imposed in Srinagar seven police station areas and district headquarters to maintain law and order.
