Ministry of External Affairs has said five terrorists attacked the Indian consulate in Afghanistan's Jalalabad yesterday. Briefing media in New Delhi, Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup said three persons were reportedly killed in the encounter that lasted 45 minutes. He said the terrorists approached the consulate with a van rigged with explosives. Mr Swarup said it is noteworthy that the attackers could not breach security and one terrorist blew himself up. <br/><br/>He said all Indians in the mission were safe and one local staff sustained minor injuries in the attack. Mr Swarup said the onslaught was countered by the personnel of Afghan National Police and National Directorate of Security.<br/><br/>Mr Swarup also informed that 49 Indian fishermen, who were detained in Iran, have been released and have reached Chennai this morning. The fishermen, including 44 from Tamil Nadu, were arrested in December last year.
