Five Tamil Nadu fishermen released by Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka has released five fishermen from Tamil Nadu's Pudukottai who were apprehended last month by Sri Lankan Navy. The fishermen will be handed over to Indian Coast Guard by Sri Lankan Navy at the international maritime boundary line today. The release of fishermen from Tamil Nadu comes in the wake of talks between fishermen representatives of India and Sri Lanka held at Delhi yesterday.

Local fishermen have welcomed the Sri Lankan government's gesture to release Pudukottai fishermen lodged in Lankan jail. They urge the government to secure the release of four fishermen from Rameswaram apprehended by Sri Lankan navy and 115 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka.

The fishermen hope that lasting solution to fishermen problem will be found in the talks between Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Sri Lankan counterpart Mangala Samaraweera Fisheries minister Mahinda Amaraweera at Delhi on Saturday.
