The Afghan police today arrested five Taliban militants including their commander during an operation against insurgents in the northern Kunduz province. Provincial police chief Abdul Rahman Syedkhili said during the operation which covered several villages in the Chardara district, police captured the Taliban commander Mawlawi Wajid along with his four armed men. He said with the capture of Mawlawi Wajid, the security situation would be further improved in Chardara district. Taliban militants fighting Afghan and NATO-led troops have yet to make comment.
