A five-storey residential building collapsed in Lalita Park in New Delhi's Laxmi Nagar area last evening. Delhi's Health Minister Kiran Walia, who was at the spot, said that 42 people have been killed and 65 others are injured. The injured have been shifted to Lal Bahadur Shastri and LNJP hospitals. Several people are feared trapped under the debris. According to eyewitnesses, at least 400-500 people were staying in the building which collapsed in the evening around 7.30pm. There is no confirmation on how the building collapsed but according to locals, the basement of the building was filled with water and some construction work was going on which further weakened the base of the building. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said, 30 to 40 people are yet to be rescued. She said she will order an inquiry into the incident. Rescue work is going on and the people in the area have been assisting the police officials and the fire brigade.
