Five point agenda to rejuvenate Social Science research

Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal today announced 5 point agenda of the government to rejuvenate Social Science research in the country.

He said it includes strategy to attract bright young researchers and give 10 annual awards of excellence.

Inaugurating an international conference on Social Sciences in New Delhi, Mr. Sibal said that there is a need to evolve a mechanism to give solution according to Indian context and one should not follow blindly what is happening in West or in other countries.

The Minister said that government is focusing on enhancing the Gross Enrollment Ratio in higher education so that by 2020 it becomes 50 per cent, which is at present is merely 16 per cent. Mr. Sibal said that an appropriate policy framework is also needed to involve all Stakeholders in education sector for its betterment.

Earlier, in the key note address, eminent economist Professor Pranab Bardhan expressed concern over weak culture of objective research in Social Science sector in India.
