The police have intensified the crackdown on the terror module busted in Karnataka and arrested 5 more suspects – 4 in Maharashtra and one in Andhra Pradesh.
Acting on the information given by eleven suspected terrorists held recently, the Central Crime Branch of Karnataka has arrested one more person from Hyderabad yesterday. In a release it says, the arrested person along with some others had conspired to kill two Corporators and one prominent leader of religious organization in Hyderabad. The police are also collecting more information about the handlers of these accused persons who are believed to be in Saudi Arabia. A probe showed that a nuclear installation and several defence establishments were targeted.
Maharashtra Anti-terrorism Squad has also arrested four terror suspects from Nanded district for their alleged links with the accused arrested in Bangalore recently. ATS chief Rakesh Maria said this in Mumbai today. However, Maria refused to divulge any further details. Police sources say, the arrest of the terror suspects in Bangalore by the local police recently led the Maharashtra ATS officials to the arrest of the four suspects in Nanded. They have been remanded to police custody till the 7th of this month.
The 11 persons arrested earlier include a journalists and a DRDO Scientist. They suspected to have links with Pakistan based terror groups – Lashkar – e – Taiba and HUJI.
With the new arrests, the total number of peopel taken in to custody in the case has gone up to 16.
