In the Kashmir valley, army and state police in a joint operation on Wednesday killed five terrorists in the frontier district of Kupwara. Police sources told AIR that on a tip off the forces launched an operation at Laribal near Hundwara in the wee hours. In the ensuing gunbattle the ultras belonging to Lashkar-e- Toiba were killed. As the security forces were closing in on the militant hideout, the ultras opened firing. The security forces retaliated, triggering a fierce gunbattle. The operation was in progress when reports last came in.
