Five lakh MP state govt employees on mass leave;public services hit

In Madhya Pradesh, over five lakh state government employees are on mass leave today. Our Bhopal correspondent reports that health services in government hospitals have been badly affected as para-medical staff have joined the strike. In the capital Bhopal most government offices wore a deserted look as employees did not turn up for work. Government schools and hospitals have also been badly hit by the strike. Only employees associated with power and water supply, health workers in emergency services and teachers doing evaluation of copies are doing their job wearing black bands. Employees are staging dharnas at district and block level across the state. Employee organizations are pressing for their 51-point demands. The demands include hike in grade pay, payment of arrears, regularization of daily-wage employees, and implementation of fixed career promotion plan apart from many other related demands. The employee’s unions have warned that if the Government fails to address their demands they will start an indefinite strike from April 17.
