Five jawans killed in attack on army convoy in Kashmir valley

Five army personnel were killed on Monday when militants opened fire on an Army convoy on the outskirts of Srinagr city in Kashmir valley on Monday evening . Militants ambushed the convoy at Hyderpora bypass on the Airport-Lal Chowk road, outside a private hospital on Monday evening.

An Army spokesman said apart five jawans killed, six others were injured in the attack. Police sources said that the militants, believed to be two in number, opened indiscriminate firing on the convoy and fled the scene after army retaliated.

Army troops along with police and CRPF immediately cordoned off the whole area and launched a manhunt to nab the militants. Later, firing was reported in the nearby Barzulla area, resulting in injuries to CRPF personnel. Hizbul Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attack.
