Five Indian fishermen arrested for alleged poaching in Sri lankan waters

Five Indian fishermen were arrested today for alleged poaching in Sri lankan waters, north of Delft island. A statement issued by the Sri Lankan navy said an Indian fishing trawler was also seized and was handed to fisheries department in northern town of Jaffna along with the fishermen, who will be produced in court tomorrow. <br/><br/>Sri Lanka and India have been trying to resolve the long standing fishermen issue with Indian fishermen getting arrested on several occasions when they stray into Lankan waters. Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena had sought for an early solution to the issue during a discussion with Indian minister of state for external affairs earlier this month.
