In Assam, the five day long elephant census will begin today. Conservator of Forest (Wildlife ) Dibya Dhar Gogoi said that the last census was held in 2011. He said that census will be held in 39 forest divisions. The forest divisions have been divided into 974 compartments to conduct the census. Restrictions will be imposed on tourists movement following the census at national parks and sanctuaries. He said that 29 observers have been deployed to monitor the census. Three methods including spotting of dung will be followed. As per last census, there was 5,620 elephants in Assam.
