Five ambassadors from Yemen posted in Europe ask Saleh to resign

Five ambassadors from Yemen posted in Europe have written to embattled President Ali Abdullah Saleh asking him to resign from the post. This was announced by the Yemeni ambassador to France, Mr Khaled al-Akwaa on Monday. The ambassadors posted in Paris, Brussels, Geneva, Berlin and London as well as the Yemeni consul in Frankfurt “sent a message to President Saleh urging him to respond to the demands of the people and resign to avert bloodshed. Three generals have also announced their allegiance to the protest movement seeking to oust President Ali Abdallah Saleh from power. In a statement broadcast by Al-Jazeera television, commanders announced that they have joined the revolution as crisis is getting more complicated and it is pushing the country towards violence and civil war. Reports say that governer of Aden also resigned. Earlier country's ambassador to the UN and human rights minister resigned on Sunday protesting action of security forces on peaceful protesters. AIR West Asia correspondent reports, the developments are taking place after nearly 50 protestors were killed by government supporters backed by security forces during peaceful demonstration on Friday. Following this, President Saleh dismissed his entire cabinet. More than a month of violence has shaken Yemen with protesters demanding President Ali Abdullah Saleh step down who is in power for more than 32 years. The extremely poor, tribal country is facing several problems that include a Shiite uprising in the north, a separatist rebellion in the south along with al Qaida’s strong presence in the country
