Fishermen resort to indefinite strike

Fishermen in Tamil Nadu and Puduchery have resorted to indefinite strike from today urging immediate release of fellow fishermen lodged in Lankan jail. The fishermen from Tamil Nadu are urging the immediate release of 27 fellow fishermen languishing in Lankan jail. <br/><br/>They are urging the government to secure the release of 71 fishing boats detained by Sri Lanka. The fishermen say that their livelihood is affected as Sri Lanka is not returning boats and confiscated fishing equipment. <br/><br/>The strike in nine districts including Nagai, Ramnad, Pudukottai, Thanjai Karaikal has affected more than 10 lakh fishermen families. Fishermen association said that they will intensify their stir by protesting in front of Lankan consulate in Chennai on Monday. <br/><br/>The fishermen urge the central government to intervene and find a lasting solution to the problem.
