Fishermen killing by Italian marines a terrorist act, says Kerala HC

The Kerala High Court on Friday observed that the killing of two fishermen by Italian marines on board the vessel Enrica Lexie is itself a terrorist act. Justice P S Gopinathan noted that the firing was unprovoked and without any warning on unarmed fishermen. The Court made the observation while considering a petition moved by the owner of the Italian vessel Enrica Lexie, seeking permission to sail. The vessel is on outer anchorage off Kochi for the past 38 days. The petitioner's counsel pointed out that despite clearances from various agencies like the Director General of Shipping, Coast Guard and Mercantile Marine Department, the Kerala police has not released the vessel. The State Advocate General K P Dandapani opposed the petitioner's demand on the ground that forensic tests of the weapons seized from the vessel have not been completed. The court posted the hearing of the case to Tuesday.
