The first tranche of India's relief aid for the Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh arrived today and was handed over by the Indian envoy Harsh Vardhan Sringla to the General Secretary of ruling Awami League, Obaidul Quader.<br/><br/>An Air India plane carrying 53 tonnes of rice, lentils, sugar, milk powder and other edibles besides soap, mosquito nets and other utilities landed in Chittagong's Shah Amanat International Airport this afternoon. Handing over the aid, Mr. Sringla said the aid is a gift from the people of India to the fraternal and friendly people of Bangladesh to help them deal with the pressing needs of the Rohingya refugees.<br/><br/>He said India's massive 7000 tonnes relief assurance is aimed to supply a 15-kg pack of essential food items and other utilities to each and every family of newly arrived Rohingya refugees. He said a second aircraft is expected to land later today.
