First session of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Mizoram will commence from 21st July, 2011. Addressing a press conference in Aizawl today, the Director, VNIT, Nagpur said that NIT will offer three courses in Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering and Computer Engineering in this first session. Out of ninety seats available, thirty seats each will go to all three streams. He said 63 students from Mizoram, who are already studying in Nagpur NIT, will come back to Mizoram and will continue their session. NIT, Mizoram have acquired two rented building in capital Aizawl to start the session and the faculties are being finalised. 12 professors from NIT, Nagpur have prepared the curriculum. It was also announced during the press conference that the NIT, Mizoram will have its own infrastructure within the next five years.
