First session of 13th Assam Legislative Assembly meets on Monday

The first Session of the 13th Assam Legislative Assembly is meeting in Dispur tomorrow. On the opening day, the Protem Speaker Dr. Bhumidhar Barman will administer the oath to the newly-elected Legislators in the Assembly.According to Assembly sources, the new Speaker of the House will be elected on the opening day of the Session. AIR Correspondent understands that former Minister Pranab Gogoi is likely to be elected unanimously as the new Speaker of the Assembly. On the Second day, the Governor Janaki Ballav Patnaik will address the members of the new Assembly.The Assembly is likely to elect senior Congress Legislator Bhimananda Tanti as the new Deputy Speaker. It may be recalled that the ruling Congress has a strength of 78 legislators of its own in the 126-member State Assembly. 12 Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) MLAs and the lone Trinamool Congress Legislator besides one independent are also supporting the Tarun Gogoi-led Congress Ministry in the State.
