The government today said that the first phase of post-enumeration survey of population has been completed in the country. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, the Home Minister, Mr. P Chidambaram said capture of bio-metrics for National Population Register is in progress and has so far covered 47 lakh persons. He said socio-economic and caste census (SECC) is in progress in Chandigarh, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Puducherry and Tripura.
Replying to a question on the progress in the investigation into the bomb blast in the premises of the Delhi High Court, the Home Minister said the investigation agency has got some promising leads.
Presenting the status report of home ministry for September, Mr. Chidambaram said under the Boarder Area Development Programme, the Centre has released around 670 crore rupees for 17 states for the current financial year till the end of this month.
Referring to disaster relief, the Home Minister said 1600 personnel and 197 boats were deployed for emergency response and rescue operations in the flood-prone states of Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Delhi, Gujarat, Kerala, Odisha, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. He said ten teams comprising of 420 National Disaster Response Force personnel with equipment have been deployed in Sikkim hit by earthquake.
