In Uttar Pradesh, first phase of local body elections is being held today in 17 districts amidst tight security. The districts going to the polls in this phase are Saharanpur, Meerut, Moradabad, Badaun, Mahamaya Nagar, Firozabad, Etawah, Farukkhabad, Lalitpur, Hamirpur, Fatehpur, CSM Nagar, Gonda, Basti, Deoria, Ballia and Varanasi. The polling in Lucknow district was held yesterday. In this phase, more than 88.55 lakh electorates will exercise their franchise at 9,693 polling stations. As part of security arrangements, 90 companies of PAC and more than 32,000 constables have been deployed.
