The first meeting of the BRICS Working Group on "Energy Efficiency and Energy Savings" is underway for the second day in Visakhapatnam today as part of its two-day international workshop to chalk out a plan during the course of deliberations.<br/><br/>The working group is expected to come out with a joint statement for concerted efforts and cooperation in the energy efficiency and energy saving research, practices and technology transfer among the BRICS group of nations. <br/><br/>Ministry of Power is hosting the meeting of the Working Group and will also showcase Energy Saving initiatives in the country. <br/><br/>The meeting of the BRICS Ministers of Energy representing Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa held in Moscow on 20th November 2015, signed a Memorandum of Mutual Understanding in Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency, agreeing to pursue energy cooperation through joint research and technology projects; technology transfer; conferences, lectures and seminars; and exchange of experience and best practices. It has also been decided by the Ministers to create a Working Group on Energy Saving and Energy Efficiency to coordinate their cooperation.<br/><br/>Andhra Pradesh government having seen success in the LED street lighting programme in Visakhapatnam under the aegis of the AP State Energy Conservation Mission and initiated by the Union Power Ministry is also contemplating for installing around five lakh 5-Star rated energy efficient pump sets in 2016-17 as part of its efforts of replacing the existing 15 lakh inefficient agricultural pump sets. These new energy efficient pump sets would save around 3000 MU of energy.
