First Homeland Security Dialogue between India and the United States begins in New Delhi today. Progress on the investigations into the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, sharing of data on terrorism, coastal security, countering illicit financing and trans-national crimes are high on the agenda in the discussion. The Indian delegation will be led by the Union Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram while the US delegation is to be headed by the Homeland Security Secretary, Ms Janet Napolitano. According to Home Ministry officials, the two delegations are also likely to discuss issues of mutual interest including mega city policing, cyber security, and transfer of counter-terrorism and homeland security equipment to each other, capacity building and mutual assistance in investigations. AIR correspondent reports that the meeting assumes significance in view of the recent revelations by terror mastermind David Hadley in a US court about the role of Pakistani spy agency ISI in the Mumbai terror attacks.
