First Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group Meeting under India's G20 Presidency begins in Gujarat

<span style="color: #222222;">The Early Warning For All initiative which is one of the five priority areas, on Thursday came up for discussion in the First Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group Meeting under India's G20 Presidency being held at Gandhinagar in Gujarat. <br />''<br />''The three day meeting began from Thursday. Talking to AIR News, Director General, India Meteorological Department, Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra who attended the meeting as an Indian delegate said that the G20 countries discussed about the early warning for all initiative to formulate the policy and plans as to how can the loss of lives and properties can by minimised by enhancing early warning system. Dr Mohapatra informed that in 2022, the United Nations and World Meteorological Organisation had jointly declared the Early Warning for All initiative under which a target has been set that by 2027, there should be an early warning system for each household in the world. Dr Mohapatra further informed that accordingly , India has also taken actions that by 2025 there should be early warning system for everyone.<br />''<br />''Earlier Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr P K Mishra and Minister of State for Communications  Devusinh Chauhan  inaugurated<br />''First Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group Meeting.Addressing the gathering on the first day of the meeting, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr P K Mishra said that the G20 platform offers the member countries a unique opportunity to find innovative ways to address a problem of disaster risk in a holistic manner. He said, in its G20 Presidency, India has accorded disaster risk reduction a high priority.<br />''<br />''Dr Mishra added that it is only on the agenda of the working group but also on the agenda of G20 Foreign Ministers  Finance Ministers and governors of Central Banks.<br />''<br />''On the occasion, Minister of State for Communications Devusinh Chauhan said that disaster adversely affects the development goals and disrupts progress and in view of it making disaster risk reduction is imperative. Mr Chauhan added that G20 countries have the opportunity to take a leadership role in building the world.<br />''<br />''Around 100 delegates from the G20 member countries, invitee countries and from nine International organisations are participating in the three day event. Five priority areas have been identified for the meeting which include  early warning for all, resilient infrastructure and improving National system for financing Disaster Risk Reduction.</span><br />
