First Ashes Test: England 28/2 in their 2nd innings against Australia on Day 3

England were 28 for two in their second innings against Australia on Day 3 of the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The hosts were leading by 35 runs when rain stopped the play. Joe Root and Ollie Pope were at the crease. For Australia, Pat Cummins and Scott Boland scalped one wicket each, sending both England openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett into the pavilion.

Earlier, Ollie Robinson and Stuart Broad picked up three wickets apiece as England bundled out Australia for 386 runs. Australia started the third day at 311 for 5 but failed to make the most of it despite Usman Khawaja scoring 141 runs. England turned the game around in the first session as Australia lost all the remaining wickets and conceded a 7-run lead to the hosts. England had declared their first innings at 393 for 8 after opting to bat.
