The first advance estimates of production for Kharif crops in 2012-13 are to be released next month. The estimates of total production of agricultural crops for the whole year will be available in the second advance estimates for 2012-13 in February next year. The shortage of food grains, pulses, edible oils and oilseeds during the year can be assessed only after the second advance estimates for 2012-13. Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Prof. K.V. Thomas stated this in the Lok Sabha today. He said no shortage of food grains is anticipated as of now. But the production of pulses and edible oil has generally been lower than the domestic demands, said the Minister.
