A caveat petition was filed in the Kerala High Court on Tuesday on behalf of the owners of MT Enrica Lexie, the Italian vessel involved in the firing incident that killed two fishermen off the Kollam coast last Wednesday. The petition has been filed in anticipation that the legal heirs of the deceased would file an admiralty suit aganist the vessel and obtain an order of arrest or detention for the purpose of obtaining security for their suit. The petitioners appealed that the court should issue notice to the caveators before hearing any such suit.A Public Interest Litigation was also filed the same day, seeking the setting up of a Special Investigation Team to probe the firing incident. The PIL filed by a lawyer of the High Court, also demanded that adequate compensation should be ensured for the kin of the deceased fishermen.
