With recovery of three dead bodies, the death toll in Sitapura IOC depot fire, in Jaipur has risen to eight. The Chief Minister Mr. Ashok Gehlot visited the site and took stock of the situation and the rescue operation. Talking to newsmen after his visit, Mr. Gehlot said that the district administration has been successful in preventing spread of fire in the nearby areas. He said a committee of RIICO will evaluate the losses caused to the industrial units due to fire. Patwaris have also started survey of loss in the nearby villages. AIR special correspondent Prem Bharti after visiting the spot has reported that fire is still raging from three oil tanks, though the intensity of fire is showing signs of decline. The District Collector Mr. Kuldeep Ranka told our Correspondent that the administration is now focusing its attention to prevent spread of ground fire. The officials are also waiting for the fuel to burn on its own so that the rescue operation can be started. An area of two kilometers around the depot has been declared red zone. On the other hand, the environment experts are concerned about the poisonous gases which have spread in the environment. They suspect that, these gases may later pose threat to the people.
