FIR against AMU officials in gay teacher case

In Uttar Pradesh, an FIR has been lodged against seven persons in connection with mysterious death of Aligarh Muslim University reader Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras. They include four AMU officials and three local media persons.<br/><br/>AIR Lucknow correspondent reports that the FIR has been filed on the orders of Chief Judicial Magistrate Aligarh. <br/><br/>Professor Siras had moved to local court after the police took no action on his complaint. In his application he had said that on February 8, three men claiming to be media persons forcibly broke in with cameras said they were responding to a complaint made by neighbors and threatened to publish his photographs. <br/><br/>After a few minutes, Siras alleged, four AMU professors entered and had a conversation with the three intruders and they left together.<br/><br/>Those named in the FIR are AMU Proctor Prof Zubair Khan; PRO Prof Rahat Abrar; Deputy Proctor Fareed Ahmed Khan and Media Adviser N A K Dhurani. The other accused are Syed Ali Murtaza and Aashu, both local media persons, and a third man who accompanied them. They have been booked for wrongful confinement, assault and use of criminal force, trespass, criminal intimidation, and conspiracy.<br/><br/>Professor Sirvas was found dead in his rented house on three days earlier in Aligarh. He was suspended by the AMU authorities recently after publication of his nude photographs but the Allahabad High Court had quashed the suspension order with instruction to reinstate him.
